Controlling Invasive Non – Native Species
Posted on: 28/04/2023
Invasive Non-Native Species (INNS) are seen as one of the biggest threats to the health of the world’s ecosystems today. They can be defined as a non-native organism that has the ability to spread and colonise a new environment, causing negative changes and damage with wide-reaching implications. Some in the scientific community compare the threat as being as serious as climate change.
In many cases these harmful organisms have been moved to a new location by human activities, and research has shown that the problems caused by these species can cost up to £1.7 Billion per annum when trying to deal with them.
This important environmental issue is the focus of Executive TV’s latest special programme, “Controlling Invasive Non-Native Species” featuring discussion and insight from those on the front line of the efforts to control them.
The programme features the work to help control the problem at Burrator Reservoir in Devon, and the challenges the APEM team face when implementing their considerable environmental expertise to this problem.
The programme features:
APEM are an environmental consultancy providing independent advice, guidance and services on environmental issues. APEM are passionate about what they do and employ a team of leading scientists working with a wide range of clients including UK water companies.
South West Water provides drinking water and wastewater services throughout Devon and Cornwall and in small areas of Dorset and Somerset.
“Controlling Invasive Non – Native Species” will be first broadcast on SKY Digital 181 on Sunday 30th April @ 10.00(am), then again on Sunday 28th May @ 10.00 (am) on SKY Digital channel 181
After the initial broadcast, the programme will be available at http://www.executivetv.org/ with the rest of our digital archive.
